Teaching Style As Perceived By Senior Secondary School Teachers in Different Types of Schools

ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out to compare the teaching styles of teachers as perceived by them in Private and Government Schools in Delhi. In the present study,the Teaching StyleSurvey Questionnaire for teachers (TSSQ)developed by Grashawas used to compare the teaching styles of teachers from different types of schools. The questionnaire consists of forty itemshaving fiveteaching styles viz. I. Expert, II. Formal Authority,III. Personal Model, IV. Facilitator, V. Delegator. The instrument was administered to teachers to knowtheir teaching styles as perceived by them. Theresult of the study showed that in the teaching styles: Facilitator and Formal Authority, significant differences were found betweengovernment and private school teachers. Whereas in the styles of Expert, Personal Model, and Delegation no significant differences were found between thegovernment and private school teachers. The study further showed that gender-wise,there exists no significant difference in the teaching style of male and female teachers. More such studies need to be conducted to generalize the findings.
