Author Name : Shahidul Islam Akand

INTRODUCTION

“If you educate a man you educate an individual, however, if you educate a woman you educate a whole family, Woman empowerment means mother India empowered.” PT. Jawaharlal Nehru. The best creation of god on earth is man and woman. Equal right to man and woman is God’s best gift to mankind. Though women constitute half of the population of India they still remain a neglected and oppressed segment of society. Empowerment of women has emerged as an important issue in recent time. In today’s competitive time women are playing key role in different fields and they share enlarge proportion in the socio-economic development of a country. Women represent an important sector of human resource that promotes national development. Empowerment is meaningless unless women are not strong and aware of their rights and duties. Empowerment would become more meaningful if women are educated, better informed and can take rational decision. The term women empowerment means women should have the power or capacity to regulate their day to-day lives in the social, political and economic spheres-a power which helps them to move from the periphery to centre stage. The term ‘women empowerment’ could also be understand as the process of providing equal rights, opportunities, responsibilities and power positions to women so that they are able to play role at par with men in society.
