4-Stage Method for Early Detection of Cotton Plant Diseases using Convolutional Neural Networks: A Novel Approach for Healthier Crops

ABSTRACT Detecting diseases in cotton plants early and accurately is crucial for minimizing the loss and preventing crop damage. A novel approach to automatic detection and classification of five categories of cotton plants: Aphids, Target Spot, Bacte- rial Blight, Powdery Mildew, and Healthy, was presented in this paper. From this deep learning model, features were extracted from cotton plant leaves using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for better classification accuracy. The model presented, achieves a high accuracy rate, demonstrating its capability in distinguishing between diseased and healthy plants. The results specified that this approach can significantly aid in the timely and precise identification of cotton plant diseases, and making wise decisions to maintain crop health efficiently.
