A Carbonate-Based Electrolyte Improves the Performance of a Lithium-Sulfur Battery
Author Name : Ashok Kumar
ABSTRACT The lithium-sulfur battery is a feasible alternative to lithium-metal batteries with excellent energy density. However, problems with dendritic Li generation, the low cycle efficiency of the Li anode, and an unstable sulfur-based cathode keep making it hard to use in real life. This one-of-a-kind electrolyte (1m LiODFB/EC-DMC-FEC) tackles the challenges of Li anodes while also appropriately matching sulfur cathodes, resulting in excellent electrochemical performance. This electrolyte enables lithium-ion cells to cycle stably for more than 2000 hours, with an average Coulombic efficiency of 98.8%. Furthermore, the Li-S battery has a reversible capacity of around 1400 mAhg-1 sulfur. With 89% retention after 1100 cycles at 1C and a capacity of more than 1100 mAhg-1 sulfur at 10°C. This cell technology exhibits high cycle stability at 608 degrees Celsius and no self-discharge
