A Case Report on Bening Hypertrophic Pyloric Canal Stenosis Due to Acid Ingestion
Author Name : Dr. Akshaya Patel, Dr. Jash Pandya
ABSTRACT Adult hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is a rare disease and presents in adult life as pyloric obstruction. It is a benign disease resulting from hypertrophy of circular fibers of pyloric canal. The most common cause of pyloric stenosis peptic ulcer disease, carcinoma of pyloric canal. The most common symptom of pyloric stenosis is vomiting, anorexia, weight loss and diarrhea. A 33-year-old female presented to the tertiary care hospital with complaints of postprandial vomiting since 1 month, weight loss and anorexia. She has a surgical history of tubeligation 4-5 years ago. She has a history of acid ingestion 5 months ago. On examination her vital signs were normal and systemic examination was also normal. Findings of abdominal CT scan are suggestive of benign hypertrophic pyloric canal stenosis with over distended stomach. UGI endoscopy reveals A/H/O corrosive ingestion- gastric outlet obstruction. The patient was admitted to surgical ward. Her symptoms were improved with supportive treatment such asIV fluids, antibiotics, proton pump inhibitor and anti-emetics. On the basis of the clinical findings, she was diagnosed with benign hypertrophic pyloric canal due to acid ingestion which was improved after performing gastrojejunostomy.
