A Comparative Financial & Environmental Analysis of Gas-Fired vs All-Electric Residential HVAC Systems

Author Name : Chaitanya Korra, Akshita Sadhana V, Akshay Reddy Kethi Reddy

ABSTRACT The residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) sector plays a pivotal role in energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental sustainability. As concerns over climate change and resource depletion grow, the transition from traditional gas-fired HVAC systems to all-electric alternatives has emerged as a potential solution. This research provides a multifaceted analysis of the financial, environmental, and societal implications of gas-fired and all-electric HVAC systems for residential applications. Using a case study of a 3,000 square foot residence in Seattle, Washington, we evaluate the installation costs, operating expenses, carbon emissions, and additional environmental impacts associated with each system over a 15-year lifespan.
