A Comparative Study of Aroma Finishing On Cotton Fabric by Using Artemisia Pallens

ABSTRACT

In the increasing competitive textile industry innovations results by improved technology. Functional finishes plays a vital role in order to provide fabrics new properties and value addition. Aroma finishing of textiles has been widely expanded and used in recent years. Aroma finish is a process by which the textile materials were treated with bioactive systems like essential oil, chitosan etc… and also gives multifunctional properties like therapeutic effects, feeling of well-being and feeling of freshness. Aroma finishing of textiles is one of the exclusive processes which enhances the value of the textile material by adding various flavor to it. Various essential aroma compounds like lavender, jasmine, rosemary and other chemical as well as natural sources were used to produce aroma finish. The present studies deals with aroma finishing of a cotton fabric by using Artemisia pallens. Artemisia pallens is an aromatic herb which is used in this study. The fragrance of Artemisia pallens was captured by different extraction. This study examines the effect of aroma finished fabric by comparing commercial and herbal method. The best results were evaluated by the performance of aroma by laundering. Objective evaluations like weight, thickness, stiffness, absorbency, strength and elongation were investigated in this study.
