A Comparative Study on Customer Attitude towards Agricultural Credit in Canara Bank and State Bank of India with Special Reference to Theni District

ABSTRACT Agriculture has been the backbone of the Indian economy for a long time still now. Indian agriculture is gifted with the fertile land and abundant of water resources. It is the main livelihood in almost two thirds of the work force in the country and most important economic sector in India. Sardar Vallabha Bhai Patel, the first Deputy Finance Minister of India, has rightly pointed out that India’s culture is agriculture. Agricultural growth is a necessary for a rapid growth in economic and social development. There is a need to ensure effective use of inputs under assured conditions of irrigation to meet the need of the growing population and face the stiff competition in the era of globalization. Under these conditions, the farmers who own meager resources require capital to make a breakthrough in agricultural production. Agriculture loan is the most important source of the farms to increase and maintain farmer’s productive ability. With the help that loan farmers can purchase modern costly inputs and adopt new technologies in farms and also to buy inputs for the cultivation of food crops as well as for horticulture, aquaculture, animal husbandry, floriculture and sericulture business. The present study has the objectives to know the socio economic status of farmers, concessions toward agricultural credit, reasons for default in repayment of loan and level of satisfaction of the customers in availing agriculture loan in Canara Bank and State Bank of India in Theni District. The present study is based on the both primary and secondary data. With the help of well structured questionnaire primary data has been collected. Seventy five respondents by convenient sampling method are selected for the study. From the data collection, analysis made on various tools like Percentage analysis, weighted average, t-Test and ANOVA.
