A Comparative Study on Job Satisfaction of Autonomous & Affiliated Engineering College Lecturers with special reference to Bangalore
Author Name : Kalyanrao Kulkarni, Dr. Ravi Kumar Singh
ABSTRACT This study is designed to assess and compare the levels of job satisfaction among lecturers working in autonomous and affiliated engineering colleges in Bangalore. A structured questionnaire based on a six-point Likert scale was utilized to collect data from 300 lecturers, representing 15 autonomous and 15 affiliated colleges. The survey explored various dimensions of job satisfaction, such as salary, job security, work environment, career development opportunities, and institutional support. The findings highlight noteworthy differences in job satisfaction between the two groups. Lecturers in autonomous institutions tend to report higher overall satisfaction, particularly in aspects like academic freedom, work-life balance, and greater opportunities for research and professional growth. On the other hand, dissatisfaction was a common issue across both autonomous and affiliated colleges, particularly concerning salary structures and promotion policies, suggesting a need for more equitable and transparent frameworks. The study concludes with practical recommendations aimed at improving job satisfaction for lecturers in both types of institutions, emphasizing the need for better institutional support, clearer career progression pathways, and more competitive compensation packages. These changes could contribute to enhanced job satisfaction and retention of lecturers in the academic sector. This could ultimately lead to improved teaching quality and better educational outcomes for students in both autonomous and affiliated engineering colleges
