A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge on Mucormycosis among Adult Living In Rural Area at Mappedu

ABSTRACT
Mucormycosis is a fungal infection caused by a group of molds called mucormyceles. Mucormycosis previously called zygomycosis is serious and rare as well. Mucormycosis is more prone to develop in people with a weakened immune system. People with health problems such as AIDS, diabetes, leukemia, metabolic acidosis, malnutrition etc. are at a higher risk. The study aims to assess the level knowledge on Mucormycosis among adult living in rural area at mappedu and associate the selected demographic variables with the level of knowledge. A quantitative approach with descriptive research design was conducted among 100 adults in rural area at mapped. Purposive sampling technique was used to select samples. Self -structured questionnaires method was used to collect demographic data and to assess the level of knowledge on mucormycosis. The study findings revealed that among 100 participants, 56(56%) had inadequate knowledge, 28(28%) had moderate knowledge and 16(16%) had adequate knowledge on mucormycosis and the demographic variables such as occupation shows significant association with level of knowledge on mucormycosis.
