This study explores the influence of parenting styles on children's behaviour in Barangay Union, Dapa, Surigao del Norte, Philippines, focusing on how cultural and generational factors shape parenting practices. A random sampling technique was employed to select 20 parents, who were then interviewed using a semi-structured format to understand their perspectives on discipline, communication, and affection in child-rearing. The phenomenological approach facilitated in-depth exploration of participants' lived experiences, with thematic analysis used to identify critical patterns and themes in the data. The findings reveal four key themes: 1) Perceptions of Discipline, where parents emphasized balanced and gentle approaches to discipline that promote self-control and emotional regulation; 2) Cultural and Generational Influences, showing a blend of traditional practices and awareness of modern parenting needs; 3) Positive Reinforcement and Respect, where parents highlighted the importance of modelling respect and supporting children's education; and 4) Adapting to Modern Challenges, reflecting the need for flexibility in parenting methods to address the unique challenges faced by today's youth. These findings are grounded in the Behavioral Genetics Theory, suggesting that inherited traits and environmental factors shape child behaviour. The study emphasizes the importance of adaptable, culturally sensitive parenting strategies that foster children's emotional intelligence, independence, and resilience. Implications for practice suggest developing parenting programs focused on balanced discipline and empathy, and future research should explore the long-term outcomes of these parenting strategies.
