ABSTRACT

Background: Kidney stones are crystal clusters that occur in the kidneys. The stones detected inside the ureter are known as ureteric stones. The ureters may be affected by the stones that form inside the kidney. Small stones flow through the ureters and into the bladder, finally passing through the urine, whereas larger stones lodge in the ureters and may restrict the passage of urine, causing numerous symptoms. Tamsulosin belongs to the alpha 1 adrenergic blocker class of medicines, which has a spasmolytic action. While Deflazacort is a prodrug and corticosteroid that lowers edema and has an anti-inflammatory effect by acting on glucocorticoid receptors. When used in conjunction with alpha 1 adrenergic blocker, it aids in the removal of stone.

Aim:The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy of Tamsulosin and Deflazacort in ureteric stone expulsion and also to assess the quality of life of patient using Wisconsin Stone –QOL Questionnaire.

Method: A total of 54 patients with ureteric calculi were included in this prospective observational analysis. The research lasted six months. The research was carried out utilizing a proper proforma to collect various data, such as the location of the stones, the presence of hydronephrosis, and signs and symptoms. The Wisconsin Stone-QOL questionnaire was used to measure the health-related quality of life of patients with ureteric calculi who were being treated with a Tamsulosin and Deflazacort combination. The difference between before and after Tamsulosin and Deflazacort treatment was statistically significant (p<0.05).The patient's quality of life improved significantly after receiving Tamsulosin and Deflazacort in combination.

Conclusion: We conclude from this study that medical expulsive therapy with Tamsulosin and Deflazacort is a first-line therapy in the treatment of ureteric stones. The combination therapy of Tamsulosin and Deflazacort was also found to have a high expulsion rate and a short expulsion time.
