A Review on Alzheimer's Disease: The Prevalence of Dementia
Author Name : Nasheer Mohammed , Dr. P. Joyruth
ABSTRACT Alzheimer's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, poses a significant global health challenge. It primarily affects the elderly population, gradually impairing cognitive functions and leading to severe memory loss, behavioral changes, and diminished daily functioning. The hallmark pathology includes the accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau protein tangles in the brain, causing neuronal damage and communication breakdown. These abstract reviews recent research on Alzheimer's disease, highlighting the multifaceted etiology involving genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Early diagnosis remains a critical challenge, prompting efforts to identify reliable biomarkers and innovative neuroimaging techniques for accurate detection. Current therapeutic approaches offer limited symptomatic relief and do not modify disease progression. Hence, investigations into disease-modifying treatments are gaining momentum, with a focus on targeting amyloid aggregation, tau pathology, and inflammation.
