A Review on Management of Osteoporosis by Muthu Parpam

ABSTRACT “Asthi Vatham” is one of the vatha diseases, described in the Siddha text Dhanvanthri Vaidhyam, part I. The disease Asthi vatham in Siddha system can be correlated with Osteoporosis in modern medicine. Osteoporosis develops due to decrease in bone mineral density and bone mass or when the structure of bone is affected. Osteoporosis is due to loss of calcium in bone, so there is a need for intake of calcium content which is chiefly present in Muthu parpam. Muthu Parpam is a herbo-mineral Siddha classical formulation. From Siddha literature texts, Muthu parpam is given to treat osteoporosis. Muthu parapam enhances bone density, decreases the risk of bone fractures. Management of Osteoporosis is possible by Muthu parpam.
