ABSTRACT
This water quality assessment has been conducted from the tap water of different locations of Meerut.Water is the most important in shaping the land and regulating the climate. It is one of the most important compounds that profoundly influence life. The quality of water usually described according to its physical, chemical and biological characteristics. Rapid industrialization and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture are causing heavy and varied pollution in aquatic environment leading to deterioration of water quality and depletion of aquatic biota. Due to use of contaminated water, human population suffers from water borne diseases. It is therefore necessary to check the water quality at regular interval of time. The different locations from where the water sample is taken for our work are 1) Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology College, 2) Government School, Sofipur, 3) Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School, Meerut Cant, 4) Gautam Public School, Transport Nagar, 5) Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Jagriti Vihar, 6) Pyare Lal Sharma District Hospital, Jali Kothi, 7) Shivlokpuri, Kanker Khera, 8) Madhavpuram, 9) Ganga Nagar, 10) Shatabdi Nagar, 11) Sobhapur, 12) Modipuram. Clean plastic bottles were used to collect samples in various locations. These samples were taken in three trials with fortnightly frequency. The collected samples were tested for temperature, pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids(TDS), Dissolved Oxygen(DO), Total Suspended Soilds(TSS), turbidity, hardness and chlorine. These parameters are helping to indicate the level of quality of tap water for drinking and other domestic purposes. The parameters then were checked in par with the IS 10500 : 2012. The quality standards for drinking water in India is prescribed by Bureau of Indian Standards laid down IS 10500 : 2012.
