ABSTRACT
Agni is a very important entity for the maintenance of good health in Ayurveda. The term Agni stands for the biological fire. Acharya had mentioned 4 types of agnis in which Tikshnagnior Atyagni is considered as Bhasmak roga. Ksheen kapha, Prakupit vatapitta leads to Jatharagni vriddhi. Due to Jatharagni vriddhi rate of digestion gets increased, if food is not taken than Jatharagni vriddhi leads to dhatu pachan (digestion of tissue elements), Karshytva(loss of weight) andMrityu(death). This is known as Bhasmak roga. Rapid digestion of ingested food, digestion of bodily tissues in absence of food, relief on availability of food (but rapid aggravation after digestion)etc. All are clinical features of Bhasmak roga1. Thyroxine hormone also plays a very important role in metabolism. When thyroxine hormone gets increased in the body it leads to hyperthyroidism. When hyperthyroidism occurs in the body it includes symptoms like - BMR (basal metabolic rate) increased, increased appetite, weight loss, thirst, heat intolerance, sweating etc. These all symptoms are quite similar toBhasmak rog. Therefore, this review study is just an attempt to get understanding of disease hyperthyroidism as per Ayurveda.
