A Review Study of Utkshepa Marma with Special Reference to Modern Anatomy

ABSTRACT Marma is a special concept in Ayurveda which is explained in sharir sthan. Marma are the vulnerable point or the area on body surface in which arteries,tendons, veins, bones, muscles joint are composed together. It is collectively present to form vital spot site of Prana. They are not only present as a surface landmark in body but these are deeply seated Physio anatomical structures. The 107 Marmas are categorized in terms of their effect on vitality of body. So, any injuries on Marma can be life threatening. So, while doing surgery surgeon must have detailed knowledge of Marma. Injury to Marma leads to death, any injury to its adjacent structures would have other outcomes like delayed death or deformity, etc.
