ABSTRACT

The North East Indian tribes each have their own customs and systems of administration. Following India's liberation from British dominion, some independent Kingdoms partnered with it. Tribes living in diverse regions of North Eastern India rise up to protect their traditional administration, customary law, and practices from outside influence. As a result, there are numerous institutions that are dominated by traditional culture, as well as indigenous local institutions that are semi-autonomous and self-managing at various levels. This study analyzes the traditional village administration systems of a number of selected tribes from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram,  Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
