A Study on Green Banking Initiatives and its Sustainability over Select Public and private Sector Banks in India

ABSTRACT Banking is a key service sector where it accepts deposits and lends loans to individuals and business organisations. Now a day every financial and non-financial organisation is focusing on environmental sustainability. Traditionally Banks are not considered as polluting sector but indirectly its paper related banking activities are contributing towards carbon emissions, so banks introduced a new system of banking called Green Banking. Green Banking is a new banking technology, where it helps the banks in reduction external carbon emissions and internal carbon footprints from its activities. It also helps the customer to perform their banking activities anywhere, Green Banking aim is to turn its all banking activities completely paperless that’s why it is also called as paperless banking. The study focused on analysing the role Green Banking and its impact on select public and private sector banks.
