A Study on the Opinion of B.Ed. Student Teachers’ towards Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP)

ABSTRACT The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) collectively aim to revolutionize teacher education in India. NEP2020 emphasizes the need for high-quality teacher education to improve educational outcomes, advocating for a more integrated and holistic approach. In line with this vision, the NCTE has developed the ITEP, a comprehensive program that merges theoretical knowledge with practical training to create well-rounded educators. This study examines the opinion of B.Ed. student teachers towards the Integrated Teacher Education Programme to understand their perceptions and experiences within this educational framework. By surveying and interviewing current student teachers, the research investigates their views on the integration of theoretical and practical components, the effectiveness of pedagogical training, and the necessary of ITEP, overall preparedness the program provides for their future teaching careers. The study aims to reveal the factors influencing student teachers' attitudes, including satisfaction levels, perceived challenges, and the perceived benefits of the ITEP. The findings of the study, including the strong overall support (79%) for ITEP among B.Ed. student teachers, with a minority (21%) expressing opposition and offer valuable insights for educators, program developers, and policymakers to refine and enhance the ITEP.
