Author Name : Mr. T. Mallesham, Dr. A. Punnaiah

ABSTRACT

Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy in the ancient times but in the recent times the contribution of agriculture to the total national income diminishes from 50 per cent in 1950 to 17.8 per cent in 2019-20.  However, even today over 60 per cent of the workers are engaged in agriculture and allied activities. The existing conditions of farmers are nothing short of miserable in the country. Even the Central and State governments have been introducing several reforms in agriculture and agricultural marketing, there was not much respite for the farmers and there is no visible improvement in their conditions. By introducing many farmer welfare schemes to address the challenges of farmers like infrastructure, climate, market, inputs etc., they tried to resolve some issues. But they proved ineffective in addressing the issue in its totality. Despite all the reforms, the farmers are still facing problems in marketing of the agriculture produce. With an objective to address marketing issue and empower the farmer and improve the market connectivity so as to facilitate the farmers to get more profits and not to indulge in distress selling, the Government of India has launched the eNAM, in this connection there is need to evaluate the performance of eNAM. This paper aims to present impact of eNAM on Trade performance of commodities in terms of quantity.
