A Study on Traveller's Perception on Tourism and Travel Activities in Post-Covid Era

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the loss of lives and livelihood across the globe. All industries were drastically affected by the pandemic, the travel and tourism industry has felt maximum impact due to the grounding of flights, closure of railways, hotels, and other establishments. The travel and tourism industry has proven its importance as an economic growth engine for the Indian economy. The data by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) reveals that in 2019 the tourism industry in India contributed INR 194 billion to India’s GDP. The industry also supported 87.5 million jobs, 12.75% of total employment in 2018-19. Due to the impact of the pandemic on the global economy, the WTTC is estimating losses of up to USD 2.7 trillion with up to 100 million jobs at risk. The travel and tourism industry in India is looking at up to 40 million job losses (both direct and indirect) and about USD 17 billion in revenue loss in the next year. This study analyses the impact of covid-19 on the tourism industry of India and identifies the traveller's perception towards tourism in post COVID era. Nilgiris because of its scenic beauty and pleasant climate is a place of attractions for tourists from all over the world. This study examines the traveller's perception and behaviour towards tourism in the Nilgiris district.
