ABSTRACT : In India mother to child is by far the most significant route of transmission of HIV infection in children below 15 years. Without interventions the risks of transmission from infected mother to her child ranges from 15-25% in developed countries ,25-45% in developing countries. In India it is estimated that 202000 children are infected by HIV/AIDS. Approximately 30% of HIV infected pregnant women will transmit HIV to their babies. Based on HIV prevalence and pregnancy rate 56,700 new HIV infected babies will be born every year in India
