“A Study to Assess the Knowledge Regarding Pulmonary Tuberculosis among Tuberculosis Clients in Selected Hospital of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India”

ABSTRACT Tuberculosis continued to be more challenging in developing countries. The impact of AIDS has made tuberculosis an increasing worldwide problem. The World Health Organization has declared tuberculosis as a worldwide problem. A description study was carried out to assess the knowledge regarding pulmonary tuberculosis among tuberculosis clients admitted in the Care Hospital, Hyderabad. The data was collected from 30 tuberculosis clients. A total of 30Tuberculosis Clients selected by using Non probability convenient sampling technique, the data obtained were analyzed interpreted in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. A Self-Administered Questionnaire (SAQ) was selected as method of data collection for the study. Demographic variables Shows that 70% of the study samples were males and 30% were females, regarding religion Muslims (53%) followed by Hindus (40%) and Christians (7%),77% of the samples were married, 13% were single and 10% were widows, 60% had only primary education, 17% were graduates, 13% had secondary education and 10% were post- graduates, 63% of the samples were coolies, 16% were unemployed 13% were working in government sectors and 7% working in private sectors, 77% had exposure to dust producing areas and (23%) were working in others non-dust producing factories, 53% of the samples were from nuclear family followed by 47% from the joint family, regarding income of samples 83% were fallen in the group of Rs.1000 – Rs.5000 followed by 10% in the group of Rs.5,001 – Rs.10,000 and 7% in the group of Rs.10,001 – Rs.15,000, 80% samples were getting health information from Hospitals , (13%) from primary health centre and (7%) from mass media and 53.3% of samples had family history of tuberculosis and (46.7%) had no family history of tuberculosis. knowledge level regarding tuberculosis 53% of samples had low knowledge followed by average knowledge for 37% and very few percentages (10%) had high knowledge. In this study the Mean10.4 and standard deviation was SD=3.1.
