ABSTRACT
Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre [Family: Fabaceae] is a medium-sized glabrous tree. It ispopularly known as Karanja in Hindi and Pongam in Tamil. Justicia gendarussa Burm F.[Family: Acanthaceae] is one of the important herbs is used in Ayurvedic system ofmedicine. Extracts of the plant possess significant anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory,analgesic, anti-diarrheal, anti-plasmodial, anti-ulcerogenic, anti-hyperglycemic activities.Both the plants contain Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Carbohydrates, Tannins and Saponins. This review will focus on the Ethnobotany and pharmacological study of Pongamia pinnata Linn.and Justicia gendarussa Burm.F.
