Ageing in India: Trends, Patterns Implications, and Challenges

Author Name : Md Mohsin, Prof. Syed Naushad Ahmad

ABSTRACT This research explores the evolving demographic landscape of India, focusing on ageing trends, patterns, implications, and associated challenges. India, now the world's most populous country, is undergoing a significant demographic transition marked by declining birth rates, increased life expectancy, and a growing elderly population. The study employs quantitative secondary data from reputable sources like the Census of India and NSSO to analyze historical and projected trends. Key indicators such as age-sex pyramids, dependency ratios, and life expectancy are examined. The research identifies challenges, including healthcare, social security, and financial insecurity, and emphasizes the need for comprehensive policies to address the needs of the ageing population. Regional disparities in ageing indicators are also highlighted. The findings contribute valuable insights for policymakers and researchers globally, fostering discussions on effective approaches to address the challenges and opportunities posed by population ageing.
