ABSTRACT “We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.” - His Holinessthe Dalai Lama We are reminded each day that we hold the power to create a peaceful world. But,first we must understand peace as well as all the means to realize it. Peace is not merely a state of non-violence or absence of war. Today our world is suffering from multidimensional crisis such as terrorism, denial of human rights, economic inequality, racial discrimination, religious intolerance, nationalism, poverty, starvation, ecological imbalance, natural calamities, so on and so forth. This article provides an insight into peace and peace building through wisdom and compassion. So, what is a meaningful definition of peace? As a Buddhist and a Dharma practitioner, I would also like to offer a Buddhist perspective on peace. I would like to discussthe dimensions of peace such as inner peace and global peace and also the need to understand what the root causes of the absence and the presence of peace are. Compassion for mankind shows us the way forward. It serves as guidance on the path toward human caring and peace on earth.
