Alterations in Hepatosomatic and Gonadosomatic Indices in Freshwater Fishes Due To Exposure of Toxic Industrial Effluents

ABSTRACT

River Aami is known as Lifeline of Magahar, which originates from Sikhaira Tal, Siddharth nagar, Gorakhpur. During its journey, it receives industrial effluents at several locations. Some of them are Rayana Paper Board industries limited, Khalilabad and GIDA in Sahjanva which is chain of several industries namely textile, steel plants , india glycol limited (IGL) etc. The aim of study was to evaluate the extent of toxicity posed on the river water due to various industries situated on the river bank and its influence on reproductivity of fishes .For this study Cyprinus carpio, which shows adaptability and and resilient attitude towards the pollution caused by a number of diverse varieties of pollutants and is easily available fishes. These fishes showed a significant decrease in in their gonadosomatic index (GSI) and hepatosomatic index (HSI) value according to the season .The results of the present study will be useful for conservation and sustainable fishery management of C. carpio in its natural habitat.
