“An Analysis of Status of Child Labour in India, Pre and Post Child Labour Act 2016”

ABSTRACT Child labour has been a grave and long-standing issue, posing a significant threat to many developing countries. It is not restricted solely to poverty-stricken regions in these countries but has also continue to exist in developed nations until the early 20th century. Even though a lot of countries are enacting laws and taking serious initiatives to battle child labour, the problem continues to exist throughout the globe. Child labour manifests in severe forms, influenced by various factors. In India, the causes are intricate and deeply ingrained in society, with poverty being the primary driving force. Both urban and rural areas experience child labour, but it is more prevalent in rural regions due to the higher prevalence of poverty. The desire of many poverty-stricken rural families to get a better life in urban areas often leads them to force their children to work, focusing to increase family income and ensure survival. The aim of this paper is to analyse the factors leading to child labour and traverse areas where discrimination in child labour exists and also to analyse the status of child labour pre and post child labour act 2016. Additionally, it seeks to critically examine the issue of child labour in India
