ABSTRACT Equal enjoyment of human rights by women and men is universally accepted principle. Indian constitution has provided equal rights to women and men in all aspects including administration, opportunities, law, economy, culture, society and family life. Gender statistics has attained significance due to rising awareness of the society and women organizations about gender inequality, gender bias and gender discrimination, Gender statistics is important for SDGs. Gender statistics and various indicators provide an evidence base that make gender inequalities visible. Gender indicators ensure that situation of women and men and their contribution to society are measured correctly. This booklet ‘Women and Men in Maharashtra 2021’ is prepared to publish similar data on gender issues at State level which would be useful to policy-makers and researchers/ organizations.
