An Ecocritical Study of Selected Poems of Mamang Dai
Author Name : Dr. V. C. Priya dharshini
ABSTRACT Poetry is the voice of the heart. Born in Arunachal Pradesh, literally translated as „Land of Dawn-Lit Mountains,‟ the writings of Mamang Dai are impregnated with the beauty of nature that comes straight from her heart. It stands as a timeless record of the beauty of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh is the largest of the Seven sister states of Northeast India comprising around twenty six tribes and hundreds of sub-tribes. Mamang Dai‟s works exhibit the cultural richness of the state. She also sheds light on the ecological changes that this world experiences. Her poems beautifully blend the natural and cultural wealth of the place. Ecocriticism can be seen as a study of representation of nature in texts. A place‟s natural landscape contributes to the cultural practices, and Mamang Dai understands this and presents the same in her writings. This paper will study the cultural and the nature related elements present in Mamang Dai‟s poems from an ecocritical perspective.
