An Empirical Evidence on Indira Awas Yojana(IAY) with Reference to Beneficiaries’ Satisfaction
Author Name : Ms. Pragati Tanwar, Dr. Manoj Songara
ABSTRACT
One of the most basic requirements is housing for people's survival. Responsibility for a resident's home in the general public provides critical monetary security and societal standing. Housing that is stable, moderate, and easily accessible is directly and implicitly linked to human well-being. By viewing actual credits of a family's lodging, one can undoubtedly understand their socio-economic status. Indira AwasYojana (IAY) is a rural housing scheme that aims to provide free housing to the rural poor. Since 2016, it has been referred to as the Pradhan MantriAwasYojana. The scheme is intended to help members of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Freed Bonded Labourers (FBLs) as well as Non-Scheduled Castes (NSCs) and Non-Scheduled Tribes (NSTs) living below the poverty line (BPL) in rural areas build houses. Beneficiaries of the scheme are not only provided with houses, but also with basic amenities such as drinking water, sanitary latrines, and fuel-efficient chullahs. This scheme also includes the provision of house sites to landless people, allowing them to participate in the IAY Scheme. IAY is a fully subsidised sponsored scheme, with resources split 75:25 between the Centre and the States. The purpose of this research is to highlight the concept, nature, objectives, and role of the Indira AwasYojana in India, as well as to trace its scope, strategy, and to identify various gaps in its strategy and implementation. In this study total 225 beneficiaries were chosen who have taken the benefits under the Indira AwasYojana. The study was examined their level of satisfaction with the Indira AwasYojana. This study was conducted in the Indore District of M.P. Through the application of regression, the study concluded that beneficiaries were satisfied with the housing facility and financial assistance of Indira AwasYojana.
Keywords: socio-economic status, beneficiaries’ satisfaction, housing facility, financial assistance.
