An Experimental Study on Improvement of Cohesive Soil by Cement Stabilization

Author Name : Subham Kumar, Rajkumar Banerjee, Abhipriya Halder

ABSTRACT

The dissertation presents the improvement of CBR value achieved by stabilizing a locally available clayey soil collected from Agarpara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, with different cement contents (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%) of dry weight of soil added at optimum moisture content (OMC) of the original soil. It has been found that maximum improvement occurred at 8% cement content, which is optimum. This percentage of cement yielded soaked CBR value is 26.06%. Further attempts have been made to observe the effect of curing in thecase of 8% cement content for a period of 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days. It has been found that there is amajor increase in CBR value up to 21 days and beyond this period the increase becomes marginal.

Keywords: CBR, OMC, cement stabilization, soil improvement.
