An Insight into the Issues and Challenges in the Cyber Crime Investigations

ABSTRACT

Cybercrimes have increased manifold in recent years. The recent reports show that the increased use of digital space for work, learning financial transactions and, spending more time on social media, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic has also contributed to the increase in cybercrime instances. Cybercrime investigations need special skills, and scientific tools are required, without which investigations are not possible. This article explores the various issues and challenges faced by the investigators during the investigation of cybercrimes such as issues relating  to jurisdiction, electronic/ digital evidence, anonymity, attribution, backtracing, technical challenges, investigation workflow, inferior technology, lack of digital forensics, and lack of enforceable mutual assistance provisions.
