An Overview of Trends in Teacher Education

ABSTRACT
Teacher education is a professional programme to address some specific pedagogical concerns. Some recent innovations have highlighted many fields of knowledge that are required by teacher educators like knowledge about the pedagogy of teacher education, learning and learners. There are certain areas that need improvement for the quality of teacher education programme. Teachers have to be innovative in a way to start from their training institutions. Innovations in teacher education include many things. As stated by NPE (1986) stated “The existing system of teacher education needs to be overhauled or revamped.” Some factors in our education system which prevents the teacher education institution from being innovative like lack of physical facilities, lack of diffusion of innovations among teacher educators, rigid framework, lack of research orientation etc. This main aim of this paper is to specify main methodological versions that has came in teacher education and also to provide an overview of the recent trends, and innovations in teacher education at global level. It also highlights the need of other innovative teacher education program that can be put into use in future. In fact teacher education program should be restructured in order to modify the system to face problems and challenges in the field of education to achieve the national development.
