An Understanding of Trauma and Resilience in Lisa Genova’s novel Left Neglected

ABSTRACT Trauma is a change in psychological and behavioral pattern resulting from a distressful incident. Trauma has a long time ill-effect on the individual’s physical and mental pattern. Left Neglected is a neurological condition and usually as a result of damage to the right side of brain often following stroke or hemorrhage or traumatic brain injury. In the novel Left Neglected the protagonist Sarah develops the condition called left neglected, leading to trauma. Sarah’s physical trauma results from car accident and her right hemisphere lost its attention to external stimuli. . This article discusses the various symptoms of trauma experienced by the protagonist Sarah Nickerson in the novel Left Neglected, as the protagonist deals with different exposures to trauma and the vision of Sara’s resilience in overcoming it.
