ABSTRACT Allium cepa, or onion, is a perennial herb that has been used as a traditional medicine for centuries to treat a variety of conditions. Onions are high in dietary fiber and sugar, and contain many vitamins and minerals, including folic acid, vitamin B6, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus. Compounds from onion have been reported to have a range of health benefits which include anticarcinogenic properties, antiplatelet activity, antithrombotic activity, antiasthmatic and antibiotic effects.
