Analytical Study on Performance of Tall Buildings under Dynamic Effects Wind using Gust Factor

Author Name : Brati Basu, Prof. Arya Banerjee

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, Multi-storey buildings are the best solution for land scarcity. In modern construction, developing country like India tall structures are growing rapidly to provide residential and commercial space to the people. The demands of taller structures are becoming higher day by day everywhere in the world in addition to the challenges of material and labour cost, project time etc. Recent study shows information, it is observed that a significant number of structures are destroyed due to cyclones every year in India. therefore, it becomes necessary to analyse the dynamic effect of wind over the structure so that proper planning can be done to protect the structure from the adverse effect of wind. Tall buildings are more slender than normal RCC buildings and this leads to more possible sway during the occurrence of lateral loads. When building height increases enormously while keeping the plan dimensions same, the structure should withstand the lateral load effects. Most importantly, when we introduce composite structures over RCC ductility increases tremendously under lateral loads and stiffness of the building reduces as composite structures has less dead weight than RCC. So composite structures can take more deflections under lateral loads. This paper conducted a study keeping in view the challenging nature of high-rise construction under wind dynamic effects over RCC. This paper represents the comparison of dynamic wind effects of G+24, G+29, G+34 storeys buildings of RCC frame and composite frames in square plan are compared with the help of different parameters like deflections, story drift, storey shear, moments etc. By using Gust factor method as per IS: 875 (Part-3)-2016, the lateral wind load is calculated by considering dynamic along wind& cross wind response. ETABS 2018 software is used.
