ABSTRACT

Following SARS CoV2 infection, long-COVID is defined by the onset of many severe symptoms. Its cause is unknown, but it frequently occurs after a moderate acute sickness. Anecdotal reports of histamine receptor antagonists (HRA) causing delayed clinical symptoms suggest a histamine-dependent mechanism separate from anaphylaxis. Although T-cell alterations have been described in acute COVID-19, the T-cell landscape in recovered individuals and its link to long-COVID remains unknown.Although clinical trials are needed to determine the efficacy of both drugs in the treatment of COVID-19, this analysis suggests that primary care diagnosis and treatment with antihistamines and Azithromycin in selected cases may be effective in treating COVID-19 and preventing progression to severe disease in elderly patients.
