Assamese Campus Novel of 21st Century: An Introductory Discourse

ABSTRACT A campus novel, also known as academic novel is a genre of novels which are set in a college or university campus. Though the ‘Campus Novel’ cannot be acknowledged as a powerful genre in Assamese language, but the tradition of Assamese campus novel has achieved a special place. Cotton College (1970) of Nabin Baruah is the first campus novel of Assam written in Assamese language. In the beginning of this century, the alumni of different campuses of Assam tried to record their experiences in their debut novels. This paper presents the review of these Assamese campus novels written in the contemporary time of 21st century.
