Assess the Knowledge and Attitude towards Dysmenorrhea among Adolescent Girls

ABSTRACT
Dysmenorrhea, also known as painful periods or menstrual cramps, is pain during menstruation. Its usual onset occurs around the time that menstruation begins. Symptoms typically last less than three-day. Typically, it starts within a year of the first menstrual period. When there is no underlying cause, often the pain improves with age or following having a child. The menstrual period Is natural phenomenon that occurs throughout the reproductive years of Every woman. Primary dysmenorrhea is primarily associated with normal ovulatory cycle and with no pelvic pathology. Secondary dysmenorrhea is associated with some pelvic pathology and it constitutes approximately 10% of the reported cases and its most frequent reasons. Present aim of the study was to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude towards Dysmenorrhea among Adolescent girls In Urban Area. A quantitative approach with descriptive research design was adopted for the present study. A total of 30 Adolescent girls among which (n=30) were recruited by using non probability convenience sampling technique. Self-structured questionnaire was developed to assess the knowledge regarding Dysmennorhea among adolescent girls. Attitude rating scale 3-pointed scale Likert scale to assess the attitude regarding Dysmennorhea among adolescent girls. Outcome of the study results among 30 study participants revealed that, mean score on level of knowledge on Dysmennorhea among adolescent girls was found to be 0.73 with standard deviation 0.69. Hence the findings of present study concluded that, adolescent girls had 60% inadequate knowledge and 65% were good attitude towards dysmenorrhea.
