Assessing the Variation of Deflection and Column Forces on Different Sections of Industrial Shed Under the Impact of Wind Load

Author Name : Rohan Talwar , Anjali Rai

ABSTRACT Industrial sheds serve as essential facilities for various manufacturing and storage functions, making their structural integrity under wind loads a critical concern. This study investigates the dynamic response of industrial shed structures to wind load-induced forces, specifically focusing on the variation of column and axial forces across different sections. In this research paper, we conduct an analysis of a trapezoidal roof shed, with a specific focus on the alteration of the section size and type of the top chord member. The study employs the SAP2000 software to analyze two distinct models, each featuring a different section i.e ISA 200*200*25 and ISLC200 respectively. These analyses are conducted with consideration for terrain category 2 and a basic wind speed of 50 m/s, in accordance with IS 875 part-3 (2015) standards. The variation in deflection is also analysed for both models 1 and 2. By comprehensively assessing how column forces and deflection fluctuate across various sections, this study aims to provide valuable insights for engineers and practitioners involved in the design and evaluation of industrial sheds. The findings have the potential to enhance the resilience and safety of these structures, contributing to the development of more efficient and robust industrial facilities in the face of windinduced challenges.
