Assessment of Core Muscle Endurance and Core Stability in Female Kathak Dancers

Author Name : Bhargavi Avinash Gosavi, Dr. Rima Musale

ABSTRACT

Background – Kathak is a classical dance form of North India which is known for its intricate footwork and fast spins. The aesthetics of dance are intimately dependent on precise control of both the trunk and extremities suggest the significance of optimal core function. Dancers possess great physical demands, so it’s essential to have strong core musculature. Given the strain placed on their lower extremities, dancers are at a risk of developing musculoskeletal injuries.

Objective – To assesscore muscle endurance and core stability in female Kathak dancers so as to improve their level of performance and also prevent injuries.

Method –It is a survey based study, with a total of 80 female Kathak dancers. Dancers practicing for 3 years or more than that were included from the age group between 15 to 35 years. Core muscle endurance was measured using Prone Plank Test and core stability was measured by Sahrmann Core Stability Grading.
