Assessment of Dental Care Knowledge among Parents of Differently Abled Children in Western Maharashtra and the Impact of Audiovisual Oral Health Education Program (A Cross-Sectional Study)

ABSTRACT Methods: This study was carried out as a part of an oral screening program by the dental institution in Pune, India. The study sample comprise 196 differently abled children aged 8 to 18 years and 100 parents attending 13 special institutions throughout the Pune district. Caries status and oral hygiene status were assessed by Modified W.H.O Performa (2013) and Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) by Greene and Vermillion, respectively. Twenty-two pre and post-structured close-ended questions were designed and a 5-minute video on oral health education was prepared to assess the impact of the Audio Visual Oral Health education program. Data was analyzed by using SPSS software. The effectiveness index was calculated by using the formula given by Goodman et al to find the impact of audio-visual oral health education programs.
