Attitude and Perception of Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students towards the Research

Background: Research is a systematic method to attain new knowledge, science or invention and it plays vital role in our existence.With the consistent growth and variety of professions within Physical Therapy, it is important for medical imaging professionals tostay current on technological advances, as well as comprehending and generating additional research in their area of practice. It is important to identify the attitudes towards research so that a positive attitude can be developed among students and also to help the teachers to facilitate the learning of research for their students.
Aim: To explore attitude and perception towards research among physiotherapy students in context of research usefulness and research anxiety, research difficulty and relevance to life.
Method: Total 250 undergraduate physiotherapy students from various physiotherapy institute of Surat have participated in the study.The study includes final year bachelor of physiotherapy students and internee who volunteered to participate in study. Study excluded post graduate students and undergraduate students of other field. Data of student’s attitude and perception towards the research was collected using attitude towards research scale. The scale consists of total 32 items which is scored on 7 point Likert scale. The score 1 represent “strongly disagree” and the score 7 represent “strongly agree”. Participants were instructed to respond to each item as accurately as they can.
Results: Statistical analysis were done using Microsoft excel 2013. Overall positive attitude towards the research was demonstrated by 49% students.Total 78% students believe that research is useful to their profession whereas very less proportion (31%) of students found research is relevance to their life.
Conclusion: The present study concludes that undergraduate physiotherapy students have moderately positive attitude towards the research but many of them perceive highly positive attitude towards research usefulness in their professions.
