ABSTRACT Kala Sharira is an important part of Ayurvedic anatomy. Kala means layers or membranes of our body. There are many layers or membranes in the body which form an envelope over the organs. They provide support and protections to the organs. The fluid between their layers provides lubrication to the organs and helps them to function easily. Sandhigata Vata (Osteoarthritis) is the commonest form of articular disorder. It is a type of Vatavyadhi which mainly occurs in Vriddhavastha due to Dhatukshaya, which limits everyday activities such as walking, dressing, bathing etc. thus making patient disabled / handicapped. It being a Vatavyadhi, located in Marmasthisandhi and its occurrence in old age makes it Kashtasadhya. According to ayurvedic classic as well as on the basis of sign and symptoms of Sandhigat vata can be correlate with osteoarthritis. The effect of this disease causes loss of functions as well as deformity of the joints specially weight bearing joints like knee joints. As this disease is chronic in nature, food, lifestyle and medicine have influence on relieving and aggravating the symptoms of Sandhigata Vata.
