ABSTRACT Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a common endocrine disorder found in women of reproductive age, characterized by hormonal imbalances, ovarian dysfunction, and metabolic issues. Symptoms include irregular menstrual cycles, elevated androgen levels, insulin resistance, and the presence of ovarian cysts, all of which can significantly affect fertility and overall health. Traditional treatment methods often concentrate on managing symptoms through hormonal therapies and insulin-sensitizing medications, which may lead to side effects. Ayurveda presents a holistic approach to PCOD management, focusing on personalized treatment based on Dosha imbalances, detoxification, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications. This case study examines the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatment in a 28-year-old woman diagnosed with PCOD who experienced menstrual irregularities, acne, excessive hair growth, and weight gain. Over a three-month period, she followed a treatment plan that included herbal remedies like Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Kanchanar Guggulu, along with dietary changes and yoga therapy. The results showed marked improvements in menstrual regularity, a reduction in symptoms related to hyperandrogenism, weight loss, and improved metabolic function. Follow-up ultrasound results revealed a reduction in ovarian cysts, indicating a positive response to the treatment. This study underscores the potential of Ayurveda as a safe and effective alternative or complementary method for managing PCOD. Larger-scale research is needed to develop standardized Ayurvedic protocols for wider clinical use.
