ABSTRACT In the worldwide battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (Covishield) has been instrumental. The mechanism of action, effectiveness, safety profile, and regulatory approval process of the vaccine are all thoroughly examined in this review paper. We go into the creation, testing, and post-approval monitoring of the vaccine, emphasizing its 76% effectiveness in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 and its 100% effectiveness in preventing severe illness and hospitalization. The review also discusses the regulatory responses of different authorities and safety issues, such as uncommon incidences of thrombosis and thrombocytopenia. We also describe the Indian regulatory structure, including the functions of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drug Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The goal of this thorough analysis is to give academics, policymakers, and medical professionals a thorough knowledge of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
