BMI as a Predictor for Impulsive Tendencies and Attention Regulation in Young Adults

Author Name : Vaishali Verma, Dr Kaushalendra Tripathi

ABSTRACT

Recent studies have connected overweight and obesity to worse cognitive functioning, research on the causes of obesity is anticipated to enhance prognosis, prevention, and care because it is a complicated multifactorial condition. The present research aims to study BMI as a predictor for impulsive tendencies and attention regulation in young adults. The study was conducted on 100 young adults between the ages of 18-30, both male and female in the Delhi NCR region. They were made to fill out Barats Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11) and Attention Control Scale (ACS) which are self-report scales. The scores for the BIS-11 and ACS were calculated and a correlation matrix was made with the variables and BMI to understand the relation between the variables. It was found that there was a significant positive association between impulsivity and BMI suggesting that having a higher BMI may make a person more prone to impulsive behaviour or being impulsive might lead to a higher risk of obesity.
