ABSTRACT The global obesity epidemic has emerged as a critical public health crisis, with far-reaching economic, societal, and health impacts. Obesity imposes a substantial economic burden, consuming up to 8% of healthcare expenditures in high-income countries and straining resources in low- and middle-income nations. Its causes are multifaceted, stemming from genetic predisposition, behavioral patterns, socioeconomic factors, and a food environment dominated by calorie-dense, nutrient-poor options. Sedentary lifestyles, fueled by technological advancements, further exacerbate this issue.
